Thanks for sharing that with us Chris - how fantastic were his replies and observations. I was very privileged to have met Blake a couple of times. After reading his brilliant 'Save the Cat' I attended a couple of his UK training courses on screenwriting - he was such an open, gentle and very giving person and the film industry as lost a brilliant teacher for aspiring writers. What a sad, sad thing.

Yes Blake was a rare one, not at all jaded or cynical about Hollywood. I have had several amazing emails and I hope to compile into a series of personal stories about Blake. They will hit the blog over the next few dyas I hope.

Blake was amazing. I was very fortunate to take his class in November 2007 and meet him again earlier this year. His books are fundamental to anyone wanting to construct stories that resonate on a deep emotional and visceral level.

He has transformed the understanding of storytelling for all aspirant writers and filmmakers.

R.I.P.

Blake Snyder and John Hughes, god must have been really mad with us.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful story with us! It's amazing how many people's lives he touched.

I only knew Blake for a short time, but he deeply impacted and touched my life and the lives of many others. I feel fortunate to have taken Blake’s last Beat Sheet Workshop in July and also to have had a private consultation with him in June. But, oh how I would have loved to continue with his workshops and his teaching/mentoring.

He had a way of making you believe that you would be successful. In fact, he wouldn’t settle for less. He even convinced me that I had a best-selling idea for a movie script, which could follow with a TV series and a book, and that he knew someone who would be interested in developing it when I finished writing it.

It seems he knew that if he believed in someone and let them know that, that was half the battle, because as the saying goes, “If you “BELIEVE” you can “ACHIEVE.”

He was one of the most optimistic people I’ve ever known, and I doubt he ever saw the glass as “half empty.”

What a caring and compassionate person he was, not to mention how he knew script structure backward and forward. He was an incredible, generous, gifted, humorous, loving and caring man. No one or their questions or concerns were too insignificant for Blake to respond quickly or to give them his full attention.

For me, Blake continues to live on with all of the amazing stories people are writing about him. Every day I read a blog or a comment on his website or an interview he gave, and I feel as though he's still teaching me what I need to know to move forward and finish my screenplay.

Excellent post. Blake will truly be missed.

    About Chris

I am just like you. Passionate. Crazy mad. For movies that is. Can’t get enough. Watching movies. Making movies. Talking about movies. Drives my girlfriend Lucia nuts! So yep. Passionate, crazy and mad. And yes, I am a little schizo too. Thing is, I love making films as much as I do teaching film making. Hence, Make Film, Teach Film. I have spent my life making films and sharing what I have learned with those who, like me, have been infected with the 'film virus'... I've made three feature films, action thriller ‘The Runner’, serial killer thriller ‘White Angel’ and paranormal horror ‘Urban Ghost Story’. I also co-created and authored The Guerilla Film Makers Handbook series, and currently there are six editions! Most recently, I made the multi-award winning and Oscars shortlisted ‘Gone Fishing’. I run film making workshops and my offices are at Ealing Film Studios where I am currently plotting my next big adventure…
